What is Mindfulness?

“Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally.” John Kabat Zinn 2017

Far too often, we spend our lives rushing around, multitasking and living on autopilot mode without seeing what is in front of us. Due to this, we miss all the precious, not-so-stressful moments of life and tend only to see the negatives.

Mindfulness does originate from Buddhism, but it is not exclusively a cultural, religious or Buddhist practice. You can undertake mindfulness anywhere and everywhere by simply focusing on a task, whether meditating or even playing music or sport.

Complete undivided focus can distract otherwise worrying or troubling thoughts and promote a peaceful state of mind. Finding that focus, however, is difficult for most people in modern life. Varied scientific claims state that an average attention span per individual can be anything from just 9- 15 seconds, and we average having around 60-70 thousand thoughts per day. For some of us, I suspect even more!

Mind Alive promotes focusing upon literally anything from observing your breath or investigating sensations inside your body to focusing on sounds, smells and sensations outside your body or even the sense of touch, movement or sight in your body. The idea is to find a practice that works for you and introduce you to lots of short, enjoyable meditations to help you reduce stress, increase happiness, and break from constant or troubling thoughts.

What is colour therapy?

Colour therapy, also known as chromatology, has been around since the beginning of time and was widely used in ancient Indian ayurvedic and Chinese medicine to heal medical conditions. Equally, the Egyptians used colour to heal specific ailments, and the power of colour is still used within modern medicine today. Blue light is used to treat jaundice, and infrared light is used to kill infections as is ultraviolet light. Every colour has a different energetic vibration which is both absorbed and processed within our body.

Indeed, specific energy centres within our bodies called Chakra points are receptive to the energy of specific colours, which are known to complement energy flow around respective bodily organs within these body regions. We can feel colour and benefit from its energy flow within all regions of our body either through wearing a colour or embracing the colour of a gemstone or by simply visualising them. At mind alive, a meditation technique called Colour breathing is delivered alongside coaching to treat specific conditions such as depression and anxiety. Colour consultation is also provided to enhance wellbeing within environmental surroundings.
